For schools and BOCES: no student data
This note online: https://drmarsellos.org/schools/
What the site is
drmarsellos.org is free practice for the New York State Regents Examination in Earth and Space Sciences: past exam questions, each explaining why the right choice is right and why each other choice is not, and pages on how to read the Reference Tables.
What students need
- Nothing but a web browser. It is free, with no sign-in, no account, no email and no app to install.
- Answers are checked inside the student's own browser, and are neither sent nor saved.
What the site does not do
- It sets no cookies of any kind.
- It runs no analytics and no advertising. Cloudflare Web Analytics, a visit-counting service that sets no cookies, is not switched on for this site. If it is switched on later, this page and the privacy page will say so first.
- It loads nothing from other companies' servers: the fonts and scripts come from the site itself.
- It asks for no personal information and enters no data agreement with any school, because it holds no student data.
The one thing a student can send
Each question page has a button, "Report a problem with this question". When a student picks a reason and presses Send, the site keeps exactly three things: the question number, the reason picked from a fixed list (wrong answer key, image unclear, explanation wrong, or other) and the time it arrived. There is no free text box, so a student cannot type a name or an email into it. The IP address is not stored. Teachers can also report a question by email, to the address below.
The host, Cloudflare, may keep standard server logs (the time of a visit, the page asked for), as any web host does. They are not used to identify anyone.
Who runs it, and where the questions come from
Dr. Antonios Marsellos, Department of Geology, Environment and Sustainability, Hofstra University. A personal project; not an official Hofstra University site. Questions from schools: antonios.e.marsellos@hofstra.edu.
The questions are from past Regents Examinations in Earth and Space Sciences, published by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Every question page credits NYSED and names its exam. NYSED does not run or approve this site.
